Watch this Lise. You can actually pinpoint the second when del Toro gets the boot.
First movie was a complete disappointment due to lack of any robot action. This one, even if it has a slow start and enough marines to satisfy stupid people, remedies that wound by having enough of the action and a conspiratory plot. Though, it’s still too similar to some of the 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン (Shin Seiki Evangerion) episodes.
The opening and the kooky weightless characters feel very much like del Toro, but in the second part even acting goes more generic and faceless. Still, this is a small price to finally see some robot action. Which is okay. They punch, they do stuff, they declare attacks, but nothing has any logical layer. They’ve even remade Gypsy Danger into Gypsy Avenger and have never acknowledged it. And acknowledgement is the weakest part of the movie, they don’t evacuate cities, even when they have time. The heroes disregard private and public property and just do whatever, while some other shots depict that the buildings are full of people. And that’s why Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an outstanding movie, even if not a perfect one.
Well, at least it’s not the first movie and it delivered on it’s promises. Totally lacks the Ron Perlman character, though, despite him being alive.
