小林さんちのメイドラゴン (Kobayashi-san Chi no Meidoragon) (2017)

Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken was nice, so i finally got tired and turned on the first episode of Kobayashi-san Chi No Maid Dragon ᴀɴᴅ ɪᴛ ɪs ʙʟᴏᴏᴅʏ ᴛᴇʀʀɪʙʟᴇ. Nᴏᴛ ᴏɴʟʏ ɪᴛ ɪs ᴀ sʜᴏɴᴇɴ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴊɪɢɢʟʏ ᴛɪᴛs ɪᴛ’s ᴀʟsᴏ ᴘᴏɪɴᴛʟᴇss ᴀɴᴅ ʙᴏʀɪɴɢ. But, thankfully, the second episode was tolerable. If i wasn’t kind of intending to watch it all (after i discovered that it’s rather short) i would never give it another chance. Why would you front-load the terribleness? People who want not terrible would refuse to give your creation another chance, people who like terrible won’t get it next time and will be disappointed. Well, it’s not like the show gets reliably better down the line, but it never gets this bad.

Season 1 + Episode 14

It is a generic shonen harem structure, with a generic “elf-love” + “fish out of water” style on top of it. And it is not very good. Even with some originality in details. The editing is sloppy the episode structure was never though through during the translation from paper to screen. Is it based on 4-panel comic? Because it screams of being 4-panel and poorly edited. Rakisuta, Kofuku and Azumanga had smooth transitions, but here there is a lot of unrelated 10 second skits with spacers being used every time. Weeaboo cartoons are steal cheap underbudget trash with overbudget ambitions and are not art. Big chunk of it is talking with panning across static backgrounds, some of which, agian, are just photographs. There is no cinematography, outside of several seconds of run-time of fighting scenes, and yet there is enough butts and tits, even when it’s not fitting.

It’s ambiguously gay and can’t decide if it wants to be sultry and open like Monsuta Musume, romantic like Tamen de gushi or pure and cute like… well i wanted to say Onee-chan ga Kita, but then, not really. Most times when it actually works cohesively are the parts with Kanna. There, it has an idea, a goal and execution to it, while being a one layer deeper than usual, with Kanna being an old manipulative dragon, instead of a straight-up foster orphan. Though it still shows a very good “sportsmanship” when a team is using an all-powerful dragon to win over a bunch of other kids.
Some characters who appear in the intro from the start don’t get introduced until it’s half over, and even then they are no more than repetitive distracting one-line joke with no setup and are not involved in the story. And there are more than one.
Despite being about shape-shifting magic dragons, who don’t sleep, it rarely uses unusual kinaesthetics and never even shows Elma, Fafnir and Quetzalcoatl true forms, with Fafnir never even having an intermediate form.
I get what it tries to be about/to say and probably could state it but what is the point in speaking for an art-piece. There is no analysis to be had it doesn’t do anything outstanding with it nor fails miserably, and it doesn’t even execute it flawlessly. Well it is a story about a lone but resigned alcoholic getting a full social function of a family with an ideal housewife to complement her masculine gender and a daughter, without having to reduce herself to an actual relationship with subsequent unavoidable drama. A modern day dream of spergtists and people of progress. Why say it when it’s obvious to people of progress and impossible to grasp to normies, who in the >>current year still believe in “morals” and think that lack of “morality” automatically makes a person unlawful and evil.

The intro and outro are pretty bad, and i don’t even expect good music anymore (even if weeaboo osts were a relyable source of something good and stylish some time ago), the imagery itself is pretty unsettlingly bad.

Kobayashi-san Chi no OO doragon

A bunch of tiny skits about nothing. And even despite very short run-time they are still manage to be tiresome.

The translation, which was probably stolen from crunchyroll, is terrible (of course). I think pretty much anyone can recognize “oppai” and see that it’s absent from the subtitles.

Incoherent, inconsistent, incohesive. Tired. Mediocre. It’s so mediocre that i haven’t even got depressed from being overly agitated when i usually watch weeaboo garbage. And i kind of had high hopes for it after Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken and some gifs. Well at least it had its ark and finished it, unlike the source material.
